Another GOP hypocrite

From CNN:

Sen. David Vitter, R-Louisiana, apologized Monday night for “a very serious sin in my past” after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called “D.C. Madam.”

Sen. David Vitter apologized after his telephone number appeared among those linked to the “D.C. Madam.”

Vitter’s spokesman, Joel Digrado, confirmed the statement in an e-mail sent to The Associated Press.

“This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible,” Vitter said in the statement. “Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.”

Reaction from Flashpoint:

His Wikipedia entry states that he was an outspoken advocate of amending our U.S. Constitution to ban same sex marriages. I’m sure he foists up his religion as his rationale. I guess sins of the flesh with, presumably, people of the opposite sex are just fine though. Who knows, maybe he even supports legalized prostitution?

From Alablawg:

Remember now, gay folks who want to marry are assaulting marriage and destroying America; conservative Christian right wing Republican straight white American males who go out whoring it up while wifey is oblivious at home, well, they’re just defending traditional values. Oh, and gay love is such a matter of public concern that we need a constitution amendment to prevent it’s public recognition. When married elected officials use their tax payer paid salary on whores, well, that’s a matter solely between the sinner and God.

Wasn’t Vitter the one who took over Bob Livingston’s House seat after that sex scandal?

Anyway, I don’t care who sleeps with whom as long as it is consensual activity among adults. However, politicians who wear their morals on their sleeves and then get caught with their thingies in the cookie jar deserve exactly what get.  Perhaps it’s something in the local water.

The DC madam phone records: good fundraising list?

I’m thinking they should all make at least a token donation to COYOTE and the LP to atone for their sins.

Paul — that’s funny. I’ll download the list as soon as it becomes available online again (the server has apparently crashed).

So, did those records ever reappear?

It would be funny to record some of the reactions to a fundraising call which explicitly mentions why and how we got their names.

Should make for a great blooper real.

I do care who sleeps with whom, even consensually, if it is a politician running on family values. He is not just running on “family values,” whatever that is; he’s not just suggesting it is a good idea; what makes a politician different is that by the time he gets to D.C. he has the power (he thinks) to pass laws to make other people be as good as he thinks he is, because he is above whatever unconstitutional laws he writes or endorses to make us be better people.

To him, as to most politicians, there are the ruled (us) and the rulers (him) which be thinks puts him above the law. When will the predatory Fed government start feeling the blowback from Americans? I myself can’t wait.

Do we really need a congress and Senate? Do we really need a president? Do you laugh every time you hear Bush being called the most “powerful ‘man’ in the free world” because you know he the most useless “man” in the universe who can’t put two English words together?

    Yeah, me too.
