When it’s for the children, journalistic ethics don’t apply

Julie Hirschfeld Davis just wrote a 265 word article about the new SCHIP funding plan for Associated Press. Of the 265 words, 246 of them provided a fairly one-sided view of the $35 billion dollar expansion of government.

She saved the final 19 words to tell us where the money would come from, but spared us from such gory details such as a $10-per-cigar tax.

In other words, 92.8 percent of the article covered the expansion of goverment while only 7.2 percent glossed over who has to pay the bill. It looks like the AP is becoming as fair and balanced as Fox News.
