Former Governor Siegelman Invokes Gordon’s Law from Prison Cell
August 22nd, 2007 by Steve
Godwin’s Law states:
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
Perhaps it’s time for a Gordon’s Law:
As the discussion of a political scandal grows longer, the probability of a comparison to Watergate (or at least attaching the word “gate” to the end of the popular name of the scandal) approaches one.
It looks like former Governor Don Siegelman is invoking Gordon’s law from his prison cell:
Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman says in a letter from federal prison that he is confident his conviction will be overturned and a congressional probe will show that Republican politics was behind the investigation of his Democratic administration.
Siegelman, in a handwritten letter to The Associated Press received Monday, said he believes former presidential aide Karl Rove was behind the federal investigation.
I am also encouraged by The Congressional inquiry and upcoming investigation which should prove the political involvement and establish this Alabama case as the ‘Watergate of 2008,’” Siegelman wrote.
Do I think Siegelman and Scrushy are guilty? Hell yes.
Do I think there was some political motivation behind his prosecution (especially the timing of it)? Yes. This is Alabama, remember.
Do I think Rove is involved? I certainly wouldn’t rule it out, but I’ve not seen any conclusive evidence, yet.
Does this, or will it ever, rise to the level of Watergate? Never in a million years.

Is there a “Dondero’s Law”?
That would be of course, whenever any positive mention of Ron Paul is posted on-line, Mr. Dondero will hurriedly post that “he is polling at 1% in Oregon.”
