For Serious Steak Lovers Only

For those of you who really like a good steak, I’ll recommend that you stop by Prime Steakhouse at Bellagio when you are in Las Vegas. Despite the fact that we had a party for twelve (with a couple of last minute add-ons), the service was impeccable and professional. The Booker’s was good, the wine was great, the seared foie gras was excellent, but the steak is what I’ll most remember from dinner last night.
On special last night was a perfectly cooked bone-in filet mignon. While I failed to ask how long it had aged, it was incredibly tender while being the most flavorful filet I’ve ever dined upon. I had a recent point-of-comparison, as well, as I had eaten the same cut of beef at a Morton’s the previous evening. Because of this, I almost ordered the Kobe special instead, but am very glad I went with the filet. While Morton’s has high quality beef, they weren’t in the same ball park as Prime.
For the star watchers out there (a concept I don’t understand), my wife ran into Calista Flockhart (insert anorexia/bulimia line here) in the ladies room.
After dinner, we were escorted to the patio where we watched the Fountains of Bellagio while enjoying deserts, coffees and after-dinner drinks.
My evening was topped off with a pre-embargo Cuban cigar sent to me by a co-blogger on a previous website. To the person who gave me that gift: Thanks!

Ron Paul needs to come out in favor of free trade with Cuba!
Would it help in the Florida primary?

I have to ask, how did that chunk of beef at Prime compare to the Argentinian steak that held the number one spot?

It may simply be my current mood, but I’ve been enjoying filets lately. As for the comparison, that filet was the best steak I’ve eaten for a year or so.
Generally, I prefer ribeyes and porterhouses but often experiment with the more exotic cuts and sources. Had some good Brazilian beef lately, too.
This was my first trip to Prime, so I don’t know if I got luckier than normal with the slab of beef I was served, but others who frequent the place (like our mutual friend Michelle) also have generally great reviews.

I’ve been on self-imposed exile for a week or so. But I was certain I would come back to find you ever-so-thankful that I had reminded you of that south American beef cut you had recalled so fondly.
Now this talk of filet ambrosia…just when you think you know somebody.
