Governnment Health Care:Big Government Republicans Competing with Big Government Democrats

September 20th, 2007 by Steve

During the 2004 presidential race, one of the themes Libertarian Party presidential hopeful Aaron Russo used was that there was no meaningful difference between Bush and Kerry.  The race is over, Russo is now deceased, but the truism still remains.  Only now, there is no difference between Bush and Hillary.

Hillary announced that she now prefers the pro-corporate mandatory approach to health care which she lifted off Republican Mitt Romney, as opposed to totally socialized system she promoted from the White House basement in the previous decade.

Now Bush seems to prefer the 1990’s Clinton version:

Clinton unveiled her plan as Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said President Bush wants to achieve universal health care before he leaves office.

Leavitt told the USA TODAY editorial board that Bush will veto a Democratic plan emerging from Congress that would add $35 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the Children’s Health Insurance Program over five years. In doing so, Leavitt said, Bush will urge Congress to join him in seeking coverage for all Americans.

“He’d like to see the larger debate begin,” Leavitt said. “The very best opportunity we have may well be in the next 15 months.”

I’m getting confused between the socialist Democratic plans and the fascist Republican plans — or is it the fascist Democratic plans and the socialist Republican plans?

It’s no big surprise that Libertarian Party numbers are increasing while Republican number continue to decline.

If I was one of the few remaining small government Republicans left standing, I’d be hanging my head in shame right now.

Maybe we libs need to be discussing the McCarran-Ferguson Act which may add significantly to the cost of insurance in all sectors of the economy, but in this instance it applies to health insurance and the related medical malpractice. A summary can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCarran-Ferguson_Act

    Enjoy.
