Ron Paul Campaign Becoming More Credible

September 26th, 2007 by Steve

One gauge I use to determine if a political campaign is being taken seriously is by the coverage in publications like The Hill and Campaigns and Elections. To me, this is sometimes more telling than mainstream media or Internet coverage. Here’s the latest from The Hill:

As campaigns sprint toward the fundraising finish line, it seems the online community is stepping up its financial support of Paul.

The lawmaker’s website is urging supporters to give $500,000 in the week prior to the deadline, and it appears as though that goal will be surpassed easily.

Benton said the campaign sent out an e-mail announcing the initiative, which is also prominently featured on Paul’s website, at noon on Monday. A little more than a day later $170,000 had been raised, with additional donations coming in at a rate of a little more than $10,000 every hour.

C&E weighs in, too:

Murray Sabrin knows the difficulty of pitching libertarian principles to voters in a blue state like New Jersey, but he has never been more excited about a political campaign in his life, he said, even his own.

A former candidate for New Jersey governor, Sabrin will try to boost Republican presidential hopeful U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, at a gathering of state Republican activists this weekend.

“He’s raised more money than anyone ever thought he would, and thousands of young people are gravitating towards his campaign,” Sabrin said. “At this point in the campaign anything is possible.”

To some degree, these publications are hedging their bets in case Ron Paul has good end-of-quarter fundraising totals. If Paul does poorly, they’ll have an excuse to continue calling him a longshot candidate. If he does well, they’ll say they knew it all along.

However, they may also be looking at the political issues at play this election cycle. More and more and more people are saying what I’ve been suggesting again, again and again: Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate who can beat Hillary Clinton in the general election. There is absolutely no way the American public will vote for a pro-war candidate this election cycle. If confronted with the choice, they will hold their nose and vote for Hillary (a hawk making dove noises at the moment) before casting a ballot for Romney, Giuliani or Thompson. Ron Paul is the only candidate who can break this cycle.

Ron Paul’s new Iowa chairman just hit the nail on the head:

“The other Republican candidates are good men,” said Dr. Ivers, “but when it comes to a record of fidelity to the Constitutional principles of “Limited Government”, they are still all students compared to Ron Paul. And with 65-70 percent of Americans polled now opposing the War in Iraq, if the Republicans nominate a pro-war Republican they may just as well hand the White House over to Hillary Clinton.”

“I relish the thought of a series of national debates between Mrs. Clinton and Dr. Paul and will be pouring my energy into helping Iowa Republicans see the power of his nomination,” continued Ivers.

To those of us who actually wish to see Ron Paul debating Hillary Clinton on national television, it’s imperative that we ensure that he has good fundraising totals this reporting cycle. There are only four days before the deadline, so the time to act is now.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. I also think that when it comes to debating Hillary, the economy and government spending will be the real winner for Dr. Paul. Contact me if you are interested in trading text links. Thanx

And perhaps the fact that the Dems don’t REALLY want to get us out of Iraq, and the fact that the Dems are SOFT on illegal immigration. Two biggies that will win it for Ron Paul.

The link Steve provided to Campaigns and Elections won’t take me there. It should be:

I cant wait to see Dr. Paul debate ANY candidate head to head. Nobody besides Gravel or Kucinich would stand a chance.

Whats funnier is that Gravel and Kucinich would agree on some thinks but actually debate issues instead of pandering.

Billary didnt even answer most of the questions during the MSNBC debate last night. Pathetic.
