Compassionate Conservatism Canadian Style
October 15th, 2007 by Steve
Canadians are starting to become competitive with “real Americans.” It’s no longer just our currencies which compete, but it now looks like they want to go head-to-head with respect to use of force and civil liberties.
Reuters Canada reports that a man was just killed by a Taser in the Vancouver airport.
The unidentified foreign man, who arrived on an international flight on Sunday, showed signs of distress in the customs area. He started shouting in an eastern European language, pounded on windows, threw chairs and shoved computer equipment on the floor.
Police attempted to restrain the passenger and blasted him twice with a Taser when he refused to calm down. He died shortly after being handcuffed.
Of course, it sounds like the guy required some medical attention, but why worry with ambulances and such when Tasers are so much more effective. They’ve obviously learned compassionate conservatism from their southern neighbors.
It gets better. Almost like Republicans wordsmithing torture, they claimed the tasering had nothing to do with the death (emphasis added).
“We don’t have the … cause (of death),” Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sergeant Pierre Lemaitre told CBC television from Vancouver, British Columbia.
“Based on our review of the B.C. coroner’s service and past cases where individuals have died following the use of a Taser, what we’ve seen is they are usually due to a pre-existing medical condition or the use or abuse of legal or illegal drugs. The Tasers have not contributed to the actual death.“
Perhaps if Canadians can learn to disregard habeas corpus and create an international torture program, we can allow them to become our 51st state.
