A Ron Paul Senate Race?

December 1st, 2007 by Steve

The Wall Street Journal’s John Fund is speculating about Ron Paul running as Libertarian Party presidential candidate, while John Xavier outlines a good case for Paul to run for U.S. Senate. My take on both topics is available here.

Did y’all forget he is running for President… and doing rather well?

All this talk about running as independent, third party or for senate don’t help him a bit.

I’d have to agree. There is time to consider what to do next when we’re done doing what we’re doing now. Anything else is premature. Personally, I’d rather see Ron elected as a Libertarian than see him elected as a Republican, but he’s much more likely to win as a Republican. The deck is stacked, as we Libertarians well know.

Any scenario that gets Ron Paul out of this Congresional seat here in Texas CD 14, short of the Democrats winning the seat, is a welcomed scenario.

Let him run for US Senate. He’s not at all popular here in Texas. So, he’d lose to just about anyone in the GOP primary.

(My guess is that former Cong. Henry Bonilla may be the GOP nominee for the Kay Hutchison seat. And if that’s the case, Bonilla would easily win the GOP nomination and the general.)
