Birmingham News Notes that Joe Namath is about to Graduate from U of A

Nope, it’s not some sort of glitch.  The legendary quarterback has been taking distant learning courses and is about to complete his degree.  Hopefully others will follow his lead.

Olin said Namath will help draw attention to the university’s external degree program, which is for people age 26 and older who want to graduate from college. “I’m hoping he’ll be a shining example for adults out there who have always had a longing for an education,” Olin said.

Most of the work can be done by distance learning, with a few weekends on campus attending seminars, he said. “We have soldiers who are doing it from Iraq, Afghanistan and other places.”

If Joe Namath can get his degree after 42 years, perhaps the Crimson Tide football program can return to the win-loss ratio (29-4 with Namath quarterbacking) they had back in the era when he was playing for Alabama.
