Aderholt, Tuberculosis, and Common Sense
December 15th, 2007 by Steve
Alabama CD-4 Representative Robert Aderholt has just proposed legislation requiring poultry processing plants to screen employees for TB. Here’s a quote from the congressman: “We’re talking about a place where you are processing food,” Aderholt said. “I think that’s a sensitive area, even though TB’s not spread through food.”
I’m well aware of the isolated local case of TB infection at Wayne Farms. However, considering that Aderholt insists that TB isn’t spread though food, why is he forcing what appears to be a totally unnecessary regulation down the throats of businesses who have nothing to do with this local TB outbreak?
