Decatur Daily Highlighting Local Ron Paul Support
December 17th, 2007 by Steve
I was waking up to my first cup of coffee and sifting though my e-mail to determine if anything urgent had arrived overnight when our cleaning lady came over and asked if I knew that I was on the front page of the local paper. The article was pretty good, but I’d like to point out a few missed issues and provide some additional clarification on others.
First of all, I find one thing crucial that wasn’t covered. If any one person is due the credit for all of the Ron Paul work in north Alabama, it is my friend Tracy Kozinski, the coordinator for the 5th Congressional District. Kozinski is being honored right now by the national campaign in their supporter spotlight.
One line in the article read:
Gordon said the grassroots tactics give apathetic voters a sense of involvement.
My intent was more along the lines of: Grassroots tactics (specifically MeetUp) have given previously apathetic voters an opportunity for involvement in the political system.
Will a voter who Googles Ron Paul also mark his name on the ballot?
Jess Brown, political professor at Athens State University, said the majority won’t.
“They’ll be curious about who Ron Paul is, but what counts is how many of those will vote in the Republican primary and how many will agree with his libertarian isolationist view,” Brown said.
Regarding Dr. Brown, I’ll stand by the opinion I expressed at another website this morning:
My question is why Alabama taxpayers should help to financially support a political science professor who doesn’t even know the simple difference between isolationism and non-interventionism.
I also wonder how Brown will react to the simple fact that the Ron Paul campaign/movement just completed the “most successful fundraising day in American political history.”
One other minor issue:
Gordon said Paul’s supporters do identify with him.
“They identify with him as a neighbor or grandfather because he’s down-to-earth and approachable,” Gordon said.
I was specifically talking about people I know (from around the country) who have personally known Dr. Paul for years, not necessarily the typical Paul supporter who has never physically met the man.
I’d like to make it clear that while I personally support Ron Paul’s campaign, this is not the position of the Libertarian Party of Alabama and the national Libertarian Party. For additional information about how the national Libertarian Party is responding to the Ron Paul campaign, read this article.
All in all, it was a pretty good article and placed very well. Following yesterday’s record-setting campaign fundraising totals, it looks like today is a great day to be a Ron Paul supporter.

GO Tracy Kocinski — you rock…
yes it is a great day to be a Ron Paul supporter and it keeps getting better…..
As of 3pm EST 12-17 — If you go to http://www.alexa.com/ and check out the TR (traffic rating) for the official Ron Paul website — he has a TR of 7,478.
Mike Huckabee has a TR of 52,977
John McCain — TR 112,541
Hillary Clinton — TR 33,338
According to Huckabee’s website he has collected $1,229,712 to date for his forth quarter donations.
At this moment Dr. Paul has $18,247,850 and still coming in.
There is no mention on McCain’s site of how much money he currently has raised this quarter.
So you have to ask yourself how can Huckabee be #1 in most of the polls and Dr. Paul is not even listed in the top five. I smell a rat here. These numbers above tell me something different .
Also go to blogs about Huckabee or McCain and there are 15 to 20 comments not like the 100’s of comments on blogs or news about Ron Paul. Paul is a constant dialog for Americans and that is a good thing.
I have stopped listening and watching the MSM — they are the old media and are missing the point.

Sweet! Nice to see Ron Paul getting coverage back home. I’ve been hinting about Ron Paul to my parents, but they haven’t really heard anything about him except from me. I’m going to have to give them a call and make sure they get a copy of that paper.
