Copperhead Road in Decatur, AL
January 6th, 2008 by Steve
Just popped back from a local bar. Local Ron Paul supporters there. Coolest thing was watching people as the band played Copperhead Road. It’s been a favorite long before anyone knew who Steve Earle is. The first time I heard it, I was on active duty in Germany shortly after the song was released. I’d left my local German bar and went to the NCO club, which was in walking range to my bed. It was R&B night, but during a break, a waitress played the song on the audio system. When all the black guys cheered at the song,I knew it was clearly going to be a hit.
Here’s the YouTube of an interview/solo version of the song.

I love the song Copperhead Road too!!!!
Have you ever heard Junior Brown’s “Broke down in South Dallas” — that’s a good one too.

Junior Brown? I thought I was the only person that knew who Junior Brown was. Somewhere I still have the cassette tape with that song on it.
