Sweet Home Leningrad
Monday, March 31st, 2008Here’s the description:
Prepare yourself for this one - maybe with a Stoli martini or two.
Back in the days of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Red Army had an official choir composed of male soldiers and musicians. It still exists. The Red Army Choir performs throughout Russia to this day.
Now consider the Finnish […]
There Oughta Be a Law (NOT!)
Tuesday, February 5th, 2008From the stupid legislation department:
A new bill in Mississippi would make it illegal for restaurants to serve obese customers.
It would allow health inspectors to revoke the licence of any restaurant that “repeatedly” feeds extremely overweight people, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Two-thirds of adult Mississippians are overweight and 30% obese, according to the latest federal figures.
The bill […]
The NH Cigar Poll
Tuesday, January 8th, 2008I don’t know how well he’ll do in the New Hampshire primary today (I’ve downgraded my expectations because of reported high voter turnout), but Ron Paul just won one contest near and dear to my heart.
New Hampshire cigar shop owner Leonard Seagren is looking forward to a more flamboyant political season.
Seagren, who owns Federal Cigar, […]
Copperhead Road in Decatur, AL
Sunday, January 6th, 2008Just popped back from a local bar. Local Ron Paul supporters there. Coolest thing was watching people as the band played Copperhead Road. It’s been a favorite long before anyone knew who Steve Earle is. The first time I heard it, I was on active duty in Germany shortly after the […]
Who Would Jesus Torture?
Monday, December 24th, 2007As most of the Christian world readies for the annual celebration of the birth of Christ, perhaps we should take a few moments and step back from feast and family, warmth and security, cheerful music and the blazing fire in the hearth. Step a little further away from the hearth and the delightful smells […]
Birmingham News Notes that Joe Namath is about to Graduate from U of A
Thursday, December 13th, 2007Nope, it’s not some sort of glitch. The legendary quarterback has been taking distant learning courses and is about to complete his degree. Hopefully others will follow his lead.
Olin said Namath will help draw attention to the university’s external degree program, which is for people age 26 and older who want to graduate from […]
Art, Libertarianism, Ron Paul and the Singularity
Wednesday, December 12th, 2007Those interested in original artwork, libertarianism and the Singularity might wish to check out Mike Rster’s website. LP members interested in any of the arts might wish to check out this new group. Those interested in how Ron Paul may impact the Singularity might wish to read this article. The painting illustrated […]
Alabama’s Cask Ale Revolution
Friday, December 7th, 2007Danner Kline apologized for the title of this post, which he used in the subject line of the latest e-mail alert from Free The Hops. I liked it so much I’m lifting it from him. Here’s the gist of the e-mail:
Ok, maybe the subject line is a bit overly dramatic. But “real ale” hasn’t been […]
Ron Paul Knocks Another One Out of the Park
Thursday, December 6th, 2007So long as Mike Huckabee doesn’t try to force schools to teach creationism in science classes or Mitt Romney doesn’t use government to make me have three wives (just imagine how long the honey-do list would be), I don’t care about the religion of a presidential candidate. I’ll be casting a vote for […]
Today is Repeal Day. Enjoy!
Wednesday, December 5th, 2007“May stipenders and pensioners never sit in an American senate.” — popular American toast in 1776
Despite the fact that liberals are increasing taxes and conservatives are prohibiting sex toys, Alabamians (limited to certain counties) have something to celebrate today: Repeal Day.
Tom brings our attention to this video produced by my friends at Bureaucrash reminding us […]
You’ve Got to Fight For Your Right (to Vibrate)!
Tuesday, December 4th, 2007The Alabama sex toy saga continues. The Mobile Press-Register is reporting that Representative John Rogers will be introducing a bill to repeal Alabama’s prohibition on the sales of vibrators and dildos.
A Birmingham legislator has filed a bill that would revoke the state’s 10-year ban on the sale of sex toys, a prohibition that has […]
The Symbiotic Relationship of Ron Paul and His Revolution
Monday, December 3rd, 2007Regarding the Salon.com article I just noted, I’ve have a couple of observations.
Michael Sherer grasped the significance of several factors pertaining to the Ron Paul campaign that other journalists don’t seem to get, such as this Paul quote:
The congressman climbs onto a chair, looking giddy. “You have gotten rid of my skepticism. I was a […]
The Cultural Impact of the Ron Paul Campaign
Saturday, December 1st, 2007While the political impact of the Ron Paul campaign is interesting, I’ve been observing the cultural impact as well. Several weeks ago, I spent hours on YouTube and MySpace sites looking at songs that had been written about the campaign. Matt Labash has published a well-written article describing the wide range of musical expression of […]
Baptists to Prohibit Blogging?
Saturday, December 1st, 2007Alcohol prohibitions from Baptist conventions aren’t all that newsworthy, but this certainly caught my eye:
Georgia Baptists approved a controversial resolution against blogging during their annual meeting Nov. 12-13.
The resolution said blogs are used by “certain people … for divisive and destructive rhetoric at the expense of peace among the brethren.”
A group of younger blogger-pastors have […]
